Star Wars Battlefront 2 Game Review

Ever want to experience a galaxy far, far away at the convenience of your home? The experience offered by Star Wars: Battlefront II might be your answer. Star Wars Battlefront II is a first-person shooter game developed by EA DICE in 2017 that lets you explore the entire Star Wars saga, the spin-offs, and the recently concluded Star Wars: Clone Wars in one action-packed game.

The game even offers a campaign that introduces an exclusive canon plot integral to the Star Wars mythos and answered the pressing question of what our heroes have been up to after the destruction of the Second Death Star, which answer would surely satisfy long-time fans and those who were kept hanging and filled the void by reading Expanded Universe novels and series.

After the loot system and microtransaction controversy that clouded its launch, the game relaunched with its revamped interface, better graphics and character models, new game modes, optimized gameplay, and sight and sound reminiscent of memorable lines and battles in the film series. This huge improvement significantly increased the player base after experiencing Post Star Wars Sequel Trilogy Blues after the last film was released back in 2019.

However, the game still lacked familiar faces and fan-favourites like Mace Windu and Ahsoka Tano at the end of its development despite adding to its original 7 heroes and 7 villain rosters. Still, each trilogy in the saga(Original Trilogy, Prequel Trilogy, Sequel Trilogy are fairly represented and the power balance surely delivered.

The mechanics of the game is class-based with specific character strengths and character weaknesses. It offers single-player and multiplayer game modes. Heroes and villains are accessible after earning sufficient points while combatting as a specific trooper class or reinforcement class in the majority of game modes.

Heroes and villains duel as they take centre stage in Heroes vs Villains multiplayer mode. The controls are modelled from first-person war shooter games like Call of Duty but are available for player customization. The game allows each player to explore iconic maps like Hoth and the Death Star. Fans are also given the option to fly iconic ships such as the millennium falcon and tie fighters to pit against their friends.

As of writing, the game has limited dev-support since its last major update (the Scariff update) but the players are bigger (and bolder) than ever! Especially being up for a 50 % discount sale on Steam and being completely free for PlayStation 4 players.

Some consider this as the best Star Wars game that appeared in the last decade and arguably better than its 2003 predecessor. Now that the EA bosses deemed the game complete, fans are wishing for a sequel before their exclusive license with Disney are up. For now, fans may enjoy the heavily anticipated Star Wars: Squadron slated for release later this year and the new game pack for the Sims 4 titled Star Wars: Journey to Batuu.
